This is a shopping calculation, not a pattern generator. It cannot estimate a garment from its size alone or verify yarn substitutions. Prices, shades and availability must be checked at the shop.
How many balls should I buy?
For each yarn and colour: add your optional allowance to the pattern length, subtract the length already owned, divide by metres per ball, and round up. If the shop sells packs, round up again to whole packs of that colour.
For example, 800m of blue and 400m of cream, in 196m balls, need 5 blue and 3 cream balls when sold individually. Combining the two colours before rounding would produce an incorrect shopping list of 7 balls.
