Before you order yarn online: a UK shopping checklist

Check the requirement you started with

Use the quantities for your chosen pattern size. If your source lists balls rather than exact consumption, note that multiplying those balls by their labelled length converts a recommended purchase quantity. It does not measure the yarn the finished project will consume. Confirm whether the pattern already includes an allowance before adding another one.

Check every colour separately

Tick off the yarn name, shade name or number, ball length and number of packs for each row. Compare the selected option with the listing title and basket, rather than relying on the first photograph. Keep dye-lot information with the project and ask the retailer about it if a matching batch matters to your plan.

Check how the item is sold

A listing for a ball, a same-colour multipack and a mixed-shade bundle can lead to very different baskets. Our tools assume each pack contains only the colour on that row. Check the pack description before using its price. The project list does not automatically select variants or send quantities to a shop.

Check delivery for your destination

Use the retailer’s current delivery quote for your address and the complete basket. A price advertised for mainland UK may not describe delivery to every island or postcode. The site targets UK shoppers; your location and the retailer’s terms determine the actual delivery options. A blank delivery input is not the same as free delivery.

Check the seller and final basket

At a marketplace, check who sells and dispatches the selected item. Read the product description and applicable delivery and return information at the shop. Do not interpret a calculator total as a held price or a reservation. We do not store payment details or fulfil an order; the retailer manages the transaction.

Keep a useful record

Print the calculated list or download a project backup before leaving. A backup preserves your inputs, not live stock or prices. When you return later, verify those values and calculate again. Save the yarn bands or label photographs separately, because the calculator does not currently track dye lots or store image attachments.
